Lucca Summer Festival is a musical event that has been held in Lucca during the month of July since 1998. The concerts are held in the city of Lucca, within the historic walls, in Piazza Napoleone, Piazza San Martino and Piazza dell’Anfiteatro. Bands and soloists of national and international value have trod the stages of the Lucca Summer Festival, such as David Bowie, Bob Dylan, James Brown, Mark Knopfler, Jamiroquai, Seal, Zucchero, Ray Charles, Eric Clapton, Elton John, Anastacia, Giorgia or Ennio Morricone. The Dave Matthews Band on July 5, 2009 gave a concert of over three and a half hours, the longest performance of their career. The box set “DMB Europe 2009” was taken from that concert. In the event of a particular number of spectators, it was sometimes preferred to use the Porta Elisa football stadium or the Stadio dei Pini in Viareggio.
